HOW TO CHOOSE THE PERFECT SONG FOR YOUR
FIRST DANCE

Many of the couples who are ready to take lessons already have "their song". They heard it on their first date, or it was playing when they first kissed, or it came from their favourite movie.

Perhaps you and your fiancé need a little help with this decision. After all, there are only a few million great songs to choose from! As you listen and search for the perfect song, remember that there is only one factor that really matters: you both should love the song. It will be "your song" for the rest of your married life together.

Let's explore how I can help you.

  1. Whether or not you've chosen your song, don’t worry about the rhythm or how fast or slow it is or if it's a good dance song. My job is to teach you how to dance to it, no matter what you pick, and trust me; I've had some interesting songs to build a routine to.
  2. Consider whether you prefer a slow romantic song or something lively. They are equally easy to learn.
  3. Pay attention to the lyrics. There are many love songs out there that are quite sad if you listen to what they're saying. Make sure the words express how you feel. Since the bride and groom share the first dance, a duet is a nice choice because both the man and the woman are singing to one and other.
  4. Try not to wait until the last minute to choose your song. The better you know your song, the easier it will be for you to dance to it.
  5. Some couples know the dance they want to do but don't know which music to use. I get calls from couples saying, "we want to do a tango at our wedding … or foxtrot … or waltz …" If this is you, then I will be happy to provide you with song suggestions.

Good luck and remember have fun!
